Reform of Quebec laws on the protection of personal information

Bill 64 was officially adopted by the National Assembly of Quebec on September 22, 2021. This act modernizes the legislative provisions regarding the protection of personal information. It is now called Bill 25.

Bill 25 applies to public bodies and private companies of all sizes, thus to all companies in Quebec and those doing business in Quebec. Major changes to the governance of personal information in Quebec are anticipated. The new requirements will come into force over a period of three years, starting on September 22, 2022. Bill 25 also provides for administrative and penal sanctions of up to $25 million or 4% of worldwide sales in case of non-compliance.
