Frédérique Ruah

Frédérique Ruah is a seasoned lawyer with a versatile practice in business and civil law. She began her career in civil and commercial litigation in private practice, later expanding her expertise within a major insurance company. This diverse background enables her to provide clients with strategic and comprehensive legal support. Her areas of practice include civil and professional liability, insurance law, contractual law, civil and commercial litigation, as well as compliance with French language laws and privacy and data protection regulations. She also offers legal translation services from English to French, particularly in the field of specialized insurance risks.

An ultramarathon runner, avid athlete and outdoor enthusiast, Frédérique integrates her passions into her legal practice by offering specialized services in risk management, insurance and civil liability within the outdoor and adventure tourism sectors. She also presents conferences on these topics to a wide range of audience, including non-profit organizations and educational institutions.

Frédérique spent over 13 years as Senior Legal Counsel and Lead Legal Translator for a multinational insurance company. During that time, she provided legal opinions on a wide range of topics related to commercial insurance, specialized risks, professional liability, privacy and data protection, French language compliance (including Bill 96) and other related matters. She also made sure that the company’s insurance documents complied with Quebec laws and, if necessary, drafted endorsements or amendments to insurance policies to meet the clients’ needs. Within the company, she served as the key point of contact for the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the Office québécois de la langue française and the Autorité des marchés financiers. She also provided internal and external legal training on major legislative changes in risk management, insurance and French language laws, with a particular focus on Bill 96.

Frédérique spent the first ten years of her career practicing civil and commercial litigation at two prominent law firms: McMillan and Clyde & Co (formerly Nicholl Paskell-Mede). She supported her clients throughout the entire legal process, from case preparation to representation before the Court of Appeal, the Superior Court and the Court of Québec. While her early mandates covered a wide range of civil and commercial disputes, Frédérique gradually focused her practice on developing deep expertise in insurance law and civil and professional liability.
